It has been a while since I posted, but I have an awesome giveaway A LOVE THAT MULTIPLIES by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar!! I got a copy of this book when it first came out, and it is wonderful. It digs deeper in the personal beliefs and lives of the The Duggars. I highly recommend it. I had the privilege of meeting the Duggars in May 2009, and Michelle was such a blessing, after sharing with her the loss of our little Haven. They are such a wonderful family and inspiration. Summer is gone, Time for school!!!

Wow this summer has just flown by. We have had such a busy summer, but I am ready for cooler weather. It has been so hot lately, but the last few days I could "smell" fall in the air. It has been so hot my poor garden has pretty much died, I only have 2 tomato plants left:( But next year we are definitely going to have a bigger one:)


We started back school last week.
For Hannah(6th) we are using Abeka

For Bryson(2nd) we are using Bob Jones math, English, and reading
For Science, Spelling, and History we are using Abeka.

Haley is in Kindergarten, but she is finishing up her "teacher on line" through abeka academy for Pre-k(we started late she should finish up over the next month). I am not sure what we are doing for Kindergarten, I am still trying to decide. Any suggestions would be great:)

Saint Patrick's Day!!

Today we celebrated Saint Patrick's Day.
We celebrated this morning with Irish Oatmeal(Please excuse the pictures, I have misplaced my camera and these are from my phone).


For lunch we had baked chicken with "green spices"(basil, parsley, etc.), broccoli, and green beans.




For dessert we had "green" cupcakes!!!




We also learned some interesting facts about Saint Patrick's Day and the Shamrock. Patrick was not born in Ireland but went there after God called him to go. He used the Shamrock to explain the Trinity. We colored some shamrocks and wrote short stories on what we learned:)

School!!!

It has been an interesting year. We have had a lot of struggles. From sickness(H1n1 flu) to moving and we have not been on a good schedule. It will probably not be until June or July before we finish school. With that said, Hannah is doing well we use all Abeka 5th grade for her. I do not use the teacher curriculum, I just have the teacher edition for math and language, plus the test teacher keys. For Haley we are using the teacher on Dvd through Abeka(Which has been wonderful, because I also babysit a 3 year old and 1 year old, so it really helps). For Bryson we tried to use Abeka, but I felt like he has not catching on as quickly, so I have basically started over with him to fill in the holes. We are using Phonic Pathways to help with his reading. He reads pretty well but I just want to make sure he really gets it. For Math we are using Alpha Omega Horizons for 1st grade. For Reading we are using the Abeka Readers and we are also continuing using Abeka for Language.
We had already finished Abeka Science and History so we are now using Bob Jones( I got them at Cedar Springs Christian Bookstore, they sale used curriculum). They are older versions but we are really enjoying them. That is basically everything. Soon I am going to do a post on Gardening. We are having our first garden this year and can't wait to start our series on Gardening(after Easter). I hope everyone has a blessed day!!!

Meeting the Duggars!!!

Today the Duggars were in Dollywood and I got to meet them. They are truly a great family. I even did an interview with the camera people so who knows I might be on their show(I do not like the camera, but oh well). Here are the pictures.

BREAKTHROUGH!!!!

Today, after weeks of patience, my sweet little boy has had a breakthrough in Reading. I remember last year getting so frustrated and impatient with him. I was ready to give up homeschooling all together. Thanks to The Maxwells and Teri's Homeschooling with a Meek and Quiet Spirit, and of course the Lord God, I feel that I am doing the right thing. A lot of the times it is not the children but our won attitudes as to why we get so frustrated. I remember the second day of school this year, I got so frustrated with Bryson that I raised my voice and he started balling. Then I started crying, I had to apologize to him and to God for my attitude. He is just a little boy. I am still new at this and have a lot to learn. We just started homeschooling last year and Hannah was in the 3rd grade, so she already knew how to read and her basic math. But I know through the grace of God, I can do this. Children are such little gifts from God and I could not see me doing anything else except being here with these children all day teaching and learning from them about how great our Saviour is. I just thought I would share this. Here is the picture of my proud little boy and the first book he read, "Tip" by A beka Books k4 program.

So much to do and pictures

First off I am so excited, I found my camera, so I will put some pictures of our new home up within the next week. I have still got tons of unpacking to do, but I am trying very hard to get it done before Saturday, because we are having a neighborhood garage sale. I have lots to get rid of, because when we packed we just basically through everything in boxes. I got rid of a some stuff when I was packing, but we still have way too much stuff.
Hopefully Hannah will be done with school by Friday. I know it has taken us longer, but we did not get her curriculum until the middle of October. As soon as she is done I am listing all the teacher's books and the books that are still usable on eBay. I have Bryson's listed on there now. The good news is that I already have their books for next year. I used the Kindergarten Kit from Christian Liberty Press for Bryson and for Hannah I used some Christian Liberty Press, but Abeka for Math, Science, and Language. I got a really good deal, because vision forum sent me a coupon code and plus I got an additional discount for the early Spring sale, So I end up spending around $200 for both. To me that is a good deal because last year, I tried to do the dvd program from Abeka and it was a waste of money. We didn't even use it but for a month. I ended up spending over $1000 just for Hannah.

It has been a while!!!

It has been a while since I last posted. My husband moved into our new home May 2. I stayed that weekend and did a little unpacking. I came back the following weekend but didn't get much done because I had a nasty stomache virus. Those two weeks were really hard being away from my husband and having to stay at my grandma's house. We went home Friday and I did a little unpacking, but Sunday we went back to Georgia for the girl's dance recital. The last couple of days have been really hard for Hannah. She sits and cries and calls my grandmother constantly. I don't know how to deal with her emotions. She has a very strong bond with my grandmother. I told her once she finishes up third grade she can go stay a week. But everytime we leave, the crying starts all over again. My grandmother and Hannah both want us to drive down every week to go to church, but it is a 2 1/2 hour drive one way and with the gas prices like they are I don't see it in our budget. It takes $50 round trip and that is at $3.60 a gallon. If gas prices keep going up there is no way. My husband is making more money but the cost of living in Knoxville is more expensive than the small town we are from. I have put it God's hands and ask him to give both Hannah and my grandmother peace. Please everyone keep us in your prayers and as soon as I get everything in order here I will post pictures of our home. I really love this house and am thankful God has given it to us. It is still raining!!!

Can you believe it is still raining? Well that is a good thing except for the fact when it rains I get tired. I don't know what it is about rain that makes me so sleepy. I could sleep all day if I was able to. Anyways, the kids and I went and ate Japanese today. It is about 30 minutes away but it is worth it. We all 4 ate under $20. Their chicken is $5.95 each. Hannah and I shared a plate and Bryson and Haley shared. We ordered water to drink, so with the tip is was $18. Anyone who loves Japanese knows that if you go during dinner time you can pay $17-$25 a plate, so we got a good deal. While we were in town we went to the Whole Foods store, where I picked up some organic produce that was on sale. I also got Bryson some vitamins to help him focus, plus some dha for all three of the kids. We had a great day, but tonight it will be lonely without my man here. Well I am going to catch up on laundry. By the way the picture of the bookshelf is of all our schoolbooks(except Hannah's her books are in her desk) and my cookbooks. I was in desperation for one and found one at a resale shop. We had schoolbooks everywhere. Our Reading books are in the basement and the shelf is double the size of this one. I love it so much. I am proud of it and thought I would show it off.

Introduction

Hi my name is Delilah. I have the best husband and children in the world. I am a sahm and I homeschool my children. Hannah is doing well but there is a struggle with Bryson. He is very smart, but his mind is too busy thinking about playing. He is obsessed with pirates. He loves dressing up as one and playing with his many sets. Hannah loves school, but I do have to stay on her because she is easily distracted. I am doing a little with Haley whenever she asks to "play school". I want more children but ever since I had an Iud and it caused me to have 2 tubal pregnancies, I have had problems. I went to the doctor Monday and she is doing a full panel blood test because I haven't had a period in 2 months. She seems to think I have a thyroid condition or pcos(I pray I don't). Everyone keep me in your prayers I believe God will bless us with a baby when he is ready.
